POLICE AFFIDAVIT PROVIDES DETAILS ABOUT CARIBOU MURDER
The report released Tuesday after 19-year-old Christopher Shumway appeared in court in Caribou, goes into detail of how
police went from looking into a missing person call to investigating the murder of 20-year-old Erin Sperrey of Presque Isle.

Investigators say Christopher Shumway of Caribou beat Erin Sperrey to death at the Tim Horton's coffee shop in Caribou while
the two were working.

Police say Shumway told them he and Sperrey got into a struggle inside Tim Horton's. He told police he pushed her down and
took her car keys then started to strangle Sperrey. Shumway told police he kicked her in the head, mouth and chest and left her
in the bathroom while he went to wait on customers.

Shumway told police when he returned to the bathroom, Sperrey wasn't breathing. Police say Shumway told them he dragged
Sperrey out to her car and put her in the backseat, stole the cashbox from the office and drove off with about $1,200.

Shumway ran off the road near Lincoln and police say a family picked him up and dropped him off in Bangor. Shumway then
checked into the Motel 6 on Hammond Street.

"He appeared like he was tired. Normal people at 2 a.m. are wiped out and that's what he appeared to be, just tired. He wanted a
room and go to bed. He did say he was a smoker, I didn't have any smoking rooms at that point so I handed him an ashtray and
said there you go," says Catherine Fisher, a clerk at Motel 6.

Police arrested and charged Shumway with murder. He's being held at the Aroostook County Jail with out bail.

A year and a half after his arrest, Christopher Shumway was convicted of murder, gross sexual assault and robbery.
He is currently serving a 45 year sentence in the Maine Correctional Facility.
With good behavior, he could be back on the street in 38 years.
